Nights under the stars, a crackling campfire and morning coffee outside the tent – camping gets even better with your dog and cat. So that nothing is missing on the road, we put together our packing list from many nights out with Lola and Zayan.
Sleeping & retreat
- Their own blanket or mat – a familiar scent helps them fall asleep
- An insulating pad against cold from the ground
- For cats: a carrier or tent cave as a safe hideout
- For chilly nights: a fleece blanket or dog coat
Food & water
- Their usual food for every day, plus a reserve
- Collapsible food and water bowls
- Enough drinking water in case there's no safe source at the campsite
- Treats for training and rewards
Safety
- A well-fitting harness and leash – for your cat too
- A long line or tie-out stake for the campsite
- A light-up collar or clip-on light for the dark
- An ID tag with your phone number
Hygiene
- Poop bags
- For cats: a small travel litter box and litter
- A towel for wet paws
- A brush for burrs and grass seeds
Health & first aid
- A small pet first aid kit (bandage, disinfectant, tick remover)
- Any medication your pet takes regularly
- Tick and flea protection – check with your vet beforehand
- The phone number of a vet near your campsite
Our top tip: practice first
Pitch the tent once in the backyard or living room and let your dog and cat explore it calmly. A first trial night close to home shows you how your pet reacts – before you're far away.
